TAABA Virtual Spring Rally Sunday April 25 at 2 PM

Pastor Mary Wood has invited us to meet Eric and Yuree Lembke, newly commissioned ABC/USA missionaries who will be serving in Mae Sot, Thailand where Pastor Wood has gone many times to serve. We will do this via a zoom video conference on Sunday, April 25 at 2:00 pm. Check with your local congregation for the Zoom link to participate!

Meet Eric & Yuree Lembke

ERIC and YUREE serve at the Kawthoolei Karen Baptist Bible School & College (KKBBSC) located in Mae La Refugee Camp near Mae Sot, Thailand. Young adults, mostly from the Karen ethnic group, attend the school to pursue a degree in ministry so that they are able serve as Christian leaders within the refugee camps and internally displaced persons in areas along the Thai/Myanmar border. Eric and Yuree's ministry focuses on working with refugees through education, discipleship, and evangelism. At the school, they teach English and ministry classes. They also travel to villages in the Karen State, Myanmar with KKBBSC students and staff to teach and conduct Bible classes.

The Passing of Rev. Dr. Lawrence O. Swain

Dear Friends,

It is with profound sadness that we share with you the unexpected passing of Rev. Dr. Larry Swain last evening. He and Linda were visiting family in Kansas City.

Dr. Swain served as an Area Minister and later Executive Minister of the American Baptist Churches of Ohio until his retirement in December 2015. He returned last year to serve as ABC Ohio’s Interim Executive Minister after the death of Dr. Ernest Jones. He was serving as Executive Staff Coach for the Region at the time of his passing. Dr. Swain was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, outstanding leader, and man of God.

No information is yet available about calling hours or funeral. We will forward that information to you when it is announced.

In Christ,

Rev. Mark Click

Longtime TAABA Leader Passes Away

The Toledo Area American Baptist Association has lost one of the great ones in our storied history. Frank Veres, age 91, of Holland, Ohio, died on October 23rd, 2018 after a lengthy decline from Alzheimer's. TAABA's loss is heaven's gain! He was born August 21st, 1927 in Niles, Ohio. He was married to Thelma Johanna (Hack) on June 7th, 1954 and was married for 55 years until her death on July 21st, 2009.

Frank and Thelma were members of the First Baptist Church of Greater Toledo. They were also very active in TAABA and began the tradition of our annual TAABA picnic. Frank and Thelma would cook chicken at home and bring it to picnic. Frank was also involved in the first rewrite of the TAABA constitution and by-laws.

Our prayers go out to the Veres family. We thank God for the wonderful legacy of service the Veres' left for future generations!

TAABA Clergy Meet with Retiring ABC Ohio Executive Minister

We had a very informative and pleasant meeting of our TAABA ministers on August 13, 2015 at Scrambler Marie's on Secor in Toledo. We were blessed to welcome retiring ABC Ohio Executive Minister Dr. Larry Swain to our regular lunch meeting. Dr. Swain spent some time going over some of the transition plans in place for ABC Ohio and also asked for our input for a clergy focus group discussion. We were also blessed to welcome Region Minister Rev. Jane Gibbons. It is always a joy to have her attend and share her insights with us! TAABA is blessed to have a wonderful group of ministers and leaders who truly love each other and are blessed to serve Northwest Ohio!
